Past participle with or without ge-

 
In principle, the past participle is formed with the prefix ge-.

The following verbs, however, have a past participle without ge-:
  • All inseparable verbs which are not stressed on the first syllable, in particular verbs on -ieren and verbs with unstressed prefixes such as be-, er-, ent-, ge-, ver-, zer-:

    Infinitive Past participle
    trompeten trompetet
    reagieren reagiert
    bereiten bereitet
    gestehen gestanden
    vernehmen  vernommen
    all examples
  • All separable verbs which are formed from a verb of the first group:

    Infinitive Past participle
    hinaustrompeten  hinaustrompetet 
    überreagieren überreagiert
    aufbereiten aufbereitet
    zugestehen zugestanden
    einvernehmen einvernommen
    all examples
