Linguistic Glossary

This glossary contains definitions of linguistic terms, which are used for the generation of links and for indexing in canoonet. A search for one of these terms results in a hit list, where the individual list members point to glossary entries and grammatical descriptions.

Restriction of search to this dictionary

To restrict the search to this dictionary, select Glossary Linguistic Terms in the pull-down menu below the search field. Due to the fact that the glossary contains less than 1000 terms, this search shows best results if it is combined with a wildcard search (for example, execute *suffix, *plural*).

Wildcard Search

For complex queries so-called wildcard characters can be used. A * represents an arbitrary number of characters, a ? represents a single arbitrary character. The query umlaut* returns the database entries Umlaut, umlauten, Umlautung as search result. The query *form returns, e.g., Befehlsform, Grundform, Lautform.

The system does not distinguish between upper- and lowercase characters.
